Trump threatened TSMC with a tax of up to 100% for refusing to build factories in the United States

Donald Trump said that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which had previously expressed its intention to build new plants in the United States, could face a tax of up to 100% if it refuses to implement its plans to create production facilities in the country.

Speaking at an event of the Republican National Committee of Congress, Trump criticized the actions of the administration of the previous president Joe Biden. He noted that providing $6.6 billion in a grant to the American division of TSMC for the construction of a semiconductor manufacturing plant in Phoenix was unnecessary, since, in his opinion, such companies do not need such financial incentives. 

In March, TSMC, the world's largest contract manufacturer of microchips, announced at the White House its plans to invest $100 billion in projects in the United States. These investments involve the creation of five additional enterprises for the production of microchips in the coming years.
