The European Union was called upon to strengthen control over the financing of NGOs

The European Court of Auditors has made a proposal to review the financing mechanism for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the European Union. According to the report, the European Union annually allocates significant amounts to support NGOs, but control over the use of these funds remains insufficient. This, in turn, raises questions about whether this money reaches the target organizations.

The document emphasizes that the European Commission does not provide the public with clear explanations about the work and tasks of those NGOs that receive financial support from the EU budget. Thus, there is a lack of transparency in the allocation and use of allocated resources, which necessitates the reform of the existing system for granting grants, monitoring them and disclosing information.

For their part, representatives of the European Commission said they were ready to take into account the recommendations of the regulator. In the future, it is planned to take measures to increase transparency and efficiency of financing.
