The National Telecommunications and Information Administration of the United States (an agency of the Department of Commerce that advises the White House on telecommunications and information policy) also wants to contribute to the establishment of an AI accountability mechanism. The agency wants to develop a number of measures to ensure that AI is legal, effective, ethical, safe and trustworthy. In addition, the Technical ethics group and the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy of the United States appealed to the US Federal Trade Commission with a request to prohibit OpenAI from releasing new GPT-4 commercial chatbots, as «it is biased, deceptive and poses a risk to privacy and public safety.» According to US President Joe Biden, technology companies have an obligation to make sure that their products are safe before making them available for general use.
