The European Court of Justice in Luxembourg issued a decision according to which Poland is obliged to pay a daily fine of 500 thousand euros. This decision was made in connection with the work at the Polish mine «Turov», which is located near the state border of the Czech Republic. The Czech government has appealed to the EU court with a demand to stop work at the mine, as this enterprise harms the environment and residents of a number of neighboring settlements of the country. The fine will be canceled at the moment when coal mining at a mine in Poland is stopped. However, Warsaw says that it will not comply with the court's order, since it threatens the stability of the Polish energy system. The Polish authorities said that no decisions of the EU court of Justice can interfere with issues related to the fundamentals of the security of the member states. And as you know, coal from Turov provides the city and the municipality of Bogatynia with no alternative heat, and also produces up to 7% of all electricity in Poland.
