German Minister of Economy and Energy Robert Habeck called the discussion of the restoration of the Nord Stream gas pipeline to resume Russian gas supplies to Germany «absolutely the wrong direction.» The gas pipeline, previously considered the largest route for Russian gas supplies to Europe, has lost its relevance. According to Habek, this option is not being considered now. The Minister stressed that the discussion of the Nord Stream-1 and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines does not correspond to current priorities. He made this statement while in Brussels. Germany has been dependent on Russian gas for decades, but Norway has become the main supplier since 2022. This change occurred against the background of Moscow's supply cuts, which caused an energy crisis and record price increases in Europe. Habek expressed concern that the new government may forget the lessons learned from Europe's past dependence on Russian energy. He noted that the Social Democrats and the Conservative Party of Germany deliberately contributed to the emergence of this dependence. The Minister stressed that the experience of 2022 should not be forgotten.
