Amazon has announced a new $4 billion investment in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup that is considered OpenAI's main competitor. Anthropic is a San Francisco–based chatbot and AI model developer company Claude. Thanks to these funds, the total amount of investments made by the company in Anthropic reached $8 billion. At the same time, representatives of Anthropic clarified that Amazon will remain a minority shareholder. According to the company's statement, Amazon Web Services (AWS) will become the main cloud provider and training partner for Anthropic. In the future, the startup plans to use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to develop and implement its leading AI models. In addition, the new partnership will provide AWS customers with an exclusive early access opportunity to the Anthropic feature, which allows you to customize the Claude model to individual needs using your own data. This offer, highlighted in the company's blog, is an important benefit for AWS users. Earlier, in March, Amazon invested $2.75 billion in Anthropic, which became the largest external investment in the company's history. The first stage of financing, amounting to $1.25 billion, took place in September 2023.
