French President Emmanuel Macron expressed fears that Europe could be dragged into a difficult trade situation. In his opinion, the economic policy of the next US president could lead to the division of Europe and drag it into trade wars with both sides of the transatlantic conflict — with the United States and China. Macron stressed that the protection of the market by the United States could negatively affect the existing economic ties between Europe and America. He also noted that the trend towards the introduction of tariffs is gaining momentum in the world, which can lead to serious economic consequences. The situation is also aggravated by the confrontation between Europe and China. A recent investigation by the European Union into subsidizing Chinese electric vehicles has led to retaliatory actions from Beijing — the imposition of duties on brandy, which has a particularly negative impact on French cognac. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also expressed concern about the return of industrial production to the United States through large subsidy programs, as well as the closure of the domestic market with high import duties. He believes that this poses a serious threat to the European economy.
