The US Senate has passed a bill on the debt ceiling by a majority vote. Now the document will be sent to the head of the White House for signature. 63 senators voted for the bill, which was developed as a result of negotiations between American President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy, 36 opposed it. Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer, said: «By passing this bill, we will avoid default tonight, the consequences of which would be catastrophic. America can breathe a sigh of relief.» The adopted bill includes an increase in the national debt limit until January 1, 2025, instead of carrying out the reforms proposed by the Republican Party. It also provides for the redistribution of funds that were allocated for urgent assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic and the redistribution of part of the funds of the US Internal Revenue Service. The agreement on the debt limit between Biden and McCarthy was announced on May 28. Earlier, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the resources of the Ministry of Finance will be exhausted by June 5 if Congress does not raise the limit of state borrowing or suspend its operation.
