The US Department of Justice insists on the separate existence of Google Chrome from Google, arguing that the browser is one of the main tools for monopolizing the search market. In August, Judge Amit Mehta found Google guilty of an illegal monopoly on search queries. Now the Justice Department wants Google to sell Chrome because it provides direct access to the company's search engine. Chrome, as the most popular browser in the world, plays a key role in Google's advertising business. Monitoring the activity of Chrome users allows the company to increase the effectiveness of advertising, which is its main source of income. In addition, Google is promoting its flagship AI product, the Gemini chatbot, through Chrome. The Justice Department is also asking the judge to oblige Google to license search query results, empower site administrators to protect content from the use of AI, and untie Android from other Google products, including the Google Play app store and the search engine.
