Norwegian oil and gas company DNO ASA has announced the discovery of a large Carmen gas and gas condensate field in the North Sea. According to preliminary calculations, the total resources of this field range from 120 to 230 million barrels of oil equivalent, which is the largest discovery on the Norwegian continental shelf since 2013. Carmen has become the sixth field discovered by DNO at the Troll-Gjøa site in the North Sea since 2021. Due to the proximity of the new field to the existing infrastructure of neighboring projects, the development of Carmen is commercially attractive. DNO's share in the license area with the Carmen field is 30%, and its partners are Wellesley Petroleum (50%, operator), Equinor Energy and Aker BP (10% each). Earlier, in January 2023, Equinor announced the discovery of a large gas field Obelix Upflank on the Norwegian shelf with expected gas resources from 2 billion to 11 billion cubic meters. And at the end of June, Norge Mining announced that its phosphate ore deposit with proven reserves of 70 billion tons is the largest in the world. The raw materials from this deposit are enough to meet the global demand for fertilizers, solar panels and batteries for electric vehicles for the next 100 years.
