Компании Facebook грозит немалый штраф в размере 1% от годовой выручки в случае подтверждения информации о предоставлении неверных сведений о сделке по приобретению мессенджера WhatsApp за $19 млрд в 2014 году. Европейская Комиссия (ЕК) предъявила Facebook претензию после появления сведений о том, что мессенджер предоставляет Facebook личные данные пользователей. 

Еврокомиссия считает, что в 2014 году Facebook указал недостоверную информацию по поводу невозможности связать ID пользователя двух аккаунтов компаний. Однако позднее появилась возможность привязать телефонный номер пользователя WhatsApp к учетной записи Facebook. ЕК считает, что такая возможность была у Facebook и при покупке мессенджера, но, по каким-то причинам, этот факт был скрыт. Ответить на предоставленную претензию компании Facebook необходимо до конца января 2017.
