Сегодня Дональд Трамп заявил, что США намерены полностью выйти из состава НАФТА, поскольку сторонам вряд ли удастся прийти к взаимному соглашению по пересмотру условий торговой сделки. Ранее, по инициативе Соединенных Штатов, были организованы переговоры между США, Канадой и Мексикой, однако они не принесли желаемого результата.

США ведут активную торговлю с Канадой и Мексикой, при этом доля импорта во многом превышает объемы экспорта товаров. При товарообороте в $525 млрд с Мексикой торговый дефицит в 2016 году составил $63 млрд. Примерно аналогичные объемы торговли с Канадой приводят к торговому дефициту в $11 млрд. Администрация Дональда Трампа недовольна общими положениями Североамериканского соглашения о свободной торговле, выделяя несправедливые и невыгодные условия труда для американских работников.

Канада, ранее заключив ряд торговых соглашений с США, не опасается упразднения НАФТА. Эти соглашения не зависят от политических отношений двух стран, и свободная торговля между США и Канадой всегда приносила желаемые результаты. Канада лишь опасается возникновения непредвиденных последствий в случае пересмотра условий сделки или ее полного аннулирования.

В случае с Мексикой ситуация намного драматичней. Если сторонам не удастся сохранить торговый союз, экономика Мексики потеряет львиную долю экспортных доходов. Мексика поставляет в Штаты намного больше товаров, чем получает от своего северного соседа сама. США лишь утратит доступ к крупному рынку сбыта кукурузы.
