According to preliminary data from the Statistical Office of the European Union Eurostat, the economy of 19 eurozone countries in the fourth quarter of 2021 grew by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter. In annual terms, eurozone GDP increased by 4.7%. Experts predicted economic growth of 0.3% relative to the third quarter of 2021 and 4.7% relative to the fourth quarter of 2020. In particular, Germany's GDP shrank by 0.7%E in the fourth quarter, while France's economy grew by 0.7%, Italy's by 0.6%, and Spain's economy grew by 2%. In total, in 2021, the economy of both the eurozone and the EU grew by 5.2% compared to 2020. In the period from September to December, the GDP of the states of the entire European Union increased by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter and by 4.8% in annual terms. Today, the first of three estimates of the dynamics of eurozone GDP for the past quarter and for the year was presented. The second assessment will be published on February 15.
