Президент США Дональд Трамп заявил, что торговое соглашение с Китаем связано с гуманным разрешением кризиса в Гонконге.

Государственный департамент США выразил обеспокоенность по поводу передвижения военных сил КНР вдоль границы с Гонконгом и предупредил, что текущая ситуация угрожает установленным отношениям Соединенных Штатов с автономией.

Дональд Трамп предложил провести личную встречу с главой Китая Си Цзиньпином, чтобы помочь урегулировать кризис, а также заявил, что если власти КНР хотят заключить торговое соглашение, им нужно «сначала гуманно поработать с Гонконгом».

Массовые протесты в Гонконге вспыхнули после введения законопроекта об экстрадиции подозреваемых в преступлениях на территорию Китая. Критики законопроекта считают, на материковой части страны нельзя ожидать справедливого судебного разбирательства. Законопроект отменили, но протестующие продолжают выражать недовольство властями Гонконга и их руководителями в Пекине.
