Сланцевый газ из США, экспорт которого был приостановлен в «Газпроме» в 2013 году, продолжает набирать популярность на европейском рынке. Польша, страны Южной Европы, а теперь и Литва начали осуществлять закупки сжиженного газа из Соединенных Штатов.

Согласно официальным данным от литовского Минэнерго, в Клайпеду прибыл первый танкер со 140 тысячами кубометров американского топлива. Вторая партия сжиженного газа ожидается в середине сентября. Ранее литовский плавучий СПГ-терминал  принимал импортный газ из Норвегии, Нигерии, Тринидада и Тобаго.

Стабильная реализация поставок газа позволит построить второй терминал по приему СПГ на Балтийском море. О его строительстве на берегу Финского залива объявило правительство Эстонии в июне.
