During the negotiations with the EU, the UK expanded its requirements for concluding a partnership agreement in the field of security and defense. The signing of the agreement is scheduled for May 19 within the framework of the EU-UK summit. The main disputes concern guarantees for EU fishing vessels to fish in British waters, the terms of trade in agricultural products, and the rights of EU youth to study and work in Britain. Although both sides demonstrate a desire for agreements, tensions are rising. The EU representative noted that as the signing deadline approaches, Britain is making more and more demands, which complicates negotiations. At the same time, for the first time since Brexit, the EU declared the need for Britain to recognize the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. The European Union is also ready to cancel sanitary and phytosanitary checks that prevent the export of British products, but only if British legislation in the field of agriculture and food is fully harmonized with European standards.
